How to Freshen Up Your Home on a Tight Budget

If your house seems a bit dull and lifeless after the holidays, it’s time to freshen it up a bit. Don’t fret that you’re going to spend your summer holiday money, because there are so many things you can do and spend next to nothing. Here are some quick ways to brighten up your home.
Freshen it up with some greenery
A bouquet of your favorite flowers is definitely a beautiful decorative piece, but potted plants are always a better solution as they cost the same, but last much longer. If you’re into DIY projects you can even make a wall garden. Plant herbs in your kitchen, or small cacti in your living room. This project is both useful and eye-catching. If you don’t have a green thumb, you can simply add some floral patterns around the house. Think new pillows, wall stickers or wallpapers with flowery motifs.
Rearrange your furniture
If you grew tired of the way your furniture is arranged, that’s easy to fix. Tumble it around until you create a new, fresh layout. You can even move furniture pieces from one room to the other, until you get a completely new setup. Looking at your furniture from a different angle can make it seem new, and it doesn’t cost a cent.
Reorganize your shelves
You don’t even know how much potential hides in  your bookshelves. Try to arrange all the items by colour and you’ll end up with a vibrant center piece. Again, it costs you nothing but a little time and patience. For just a couple of bucks, you can inlay the inside of your bookshelf with a wallpaper that’s a couple of shades darker than your room, if you want to make its content more noticeable.
Layers, layers, layers
If you love to layer your clothes, why not try it with your floor! This is an interesting way to highlight or contrast different parts of the house. Rug layering is also a nice way to add texture to any room. Try getting some oriental or patterned runner rugs, or animal hides to freshen up the space. Home designers around the world are doing it, and so can you. It really makes a world of difference.
Put something new on the wall
Walls are something you see every single day, so it might be a good idea to upgrade them a bit. If you have children, frame some of their artwork. That’s guaranteed to brighten your day every time you look at it. You can try painting something yourself, or simply frame an inspirational quote you’ve always liked, or create a statement wall with your favorite photographs. Another idea is to hang mirrors, but position them opposite your windows to create a brighter space.
A can of paint can go a long way
If your budget is really tight, simply changing the colour of some items in your home can freshen up the space. You don’t have to renovate the entire room, but only put a fresh coat of paint on one of the walls or repaint one piece of furniture. With this detail, you will manage to accentuate good parts of your home, while hiding some of the weak spots. You can even do as little as painting one chair, chair legs or seats, table tops or window frames, and give your home a fresh new look. So, grab a brush and have some fun with it.
See? You don’t have to hire a decorator or spend thousands if you want to freshen up your living space. Hopefully, you’ve found some inspiration in these tips, that will help you bring new life into your home. Remember, even the smallest details can make a big change in the end. And there is just one more important thing: make sure you have fun!
